Syndication and Licensing.
How to quote, republish or license Rational Times journalism — and what belongs to others.
Quoting and linking — no permission needed
You are welcome to link to any of our stories and to quote short extracts, as long as you credit Rational Times clearly and link to the original story.
Republishing our journalism
Republishing a whole story, or a substantial part of one, needs our written permission. When you ask, tell us:
- which stories, photos or graphics you want to use;
- where they will appear (print, website, app, broadcast) and in which countries and languages;
- for how long, and whether the use is commercial.
If we agree, the story must carry our byline and credit, keep its meaning (no changes beyond trimming for length, which we must approve), and include any correction we later publish.
Photos, videos and graphics we do not own
Many images on this site belong to others and are used under their terms, which we show with each one:
- Wikimedia Commons photos are free to reuse under the licence on each file’s page — follow the link under the photo and credit the photographer as that page asks.
- NASA images are generally in the public domain in the United States.
- Government material, such as releases from the Press Information Bureau in our official-releases section, is reproduced under the publisher’s own terms — please go to the original source.
- Data in our data hub belongs to the organisations we name with each chart.
We can only license what we own. For anything else, please contact the owner.
Fees
Fees depend on the use. Non-commercial, educational and public-interest requests are often granted free of charge.
